The history of women's trousers

Until recently trousers were a garment reserved for men. Women were condemned for wearing them. The great scandal of the 19th century was the decision of Amelia Bloomer, editor of The Lily magazine, to abandon airy dresses in favour of comfortable trousers. Then Elizabeth Smith Miller designed the world’s first pair of pants for women, whose cut was inspired by Turkish pantaloons. However, the real precursor of this masculine style in Parisian salons was George Sand. For many years trousers were a symbol of freedom for women, whereas now they are an integral part of our wardrobe.

Fashion has evolved over the years. After women’s trousers permanently entered the canons of fashion, designers let their imaginations run wild. We can now enjoy a huge selection of fashionable trousers of various cuts, textures and lengths. Classic trousers with a crease or cigarette trousers are the perfect replacement for elegant skirts and are often chosen by modern business women. When choosing a more sporty style, we can confidently opt for chic sweatpants that provide great comfort and at the same time look fantastic.

Among popular trouser styles, it is impossible not to mention jeans - classic, worn in or acid washed; they largely define the street style of our time. Women love denim. They can choose jeans that best fit their figure - high waisted or low rise, boot cut or straight leg, boyfriend style or mom jeans; every woman can choose the style she loves. The structure of denim allows even more choice, from stiff denim - known from the beginning of jean history - to denim with elastane or spandex which allows comfortable stretch and fits great to the body.
